In an unprecedented move, Iran launched six consecutive waves of attacks on Israeli territory overnight Saturday, marking the highest point of tension between the two nations in decades. The offensive included a coordinated use of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles targeting key military installations in central and northern Israel. The first wave, made up of over 200 drones, was largely intercepted by Israel’s air defense system, supported by the U.S. and Gulf allies. However, several drones reached targets near Israeli air bases. In the second wave, Iran launched medium-range missiles directly from its territory. The third and fourth waves included cruise missiles launched by proxy militias based in Iraq and Syria, demonstrating Iran’s extended regional capabilities. These strikes focused on radar systems, communication hubs, and logistical supply lines. In the fifth wave, Iran deployed advanced drones with electronic jamming equipment, temporarily disrupting Israeli surveillance operations. The sixth and final wave involved long-range missiles aimed at defense industry facilities and symbolic targets near Tel Aviv. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps called the operation “a calibrated response to Zionist aggression” and warned that it was only the beginning if Israel continued its attacks. Israel, in response, declared a national emergency and has begun retaliatory planning. While most of the missiles were intercepted, several struck critical infrastructure, including a radar station and a logistics base. At least 19 people were reported injured, with considerable material damage. The international community expressed deep concern. The United Nations convened an emergency session, while major powers including the U.S., France, and Russia called for immediate de-escalation. Analysts warned that the situation could spiral into a regional conflict if not contained. “We are witnessing the beginning of a hybrid war between two regional powers with global consequences,” said an international security expert. Meanwhile, global markets plunged, and crude oil prices soared above $100 per barrel. (Sources: Al Jazeera / The Guardian / CNN / TASS / Le Monde / Reuters)
